Why buy locally grown flowers?

Support your community. In the U.S. as much as 80% of the commercial flower market is grown overseas. Wouldn’t it be great if some of that business could be shifted to your neighborhood?

Local flowers last longer. Flowers shipped in from out of the country are usually cut up to a week in advance whereas locally cut flowers are often harvested the day before, or even the morning of, their purchase date.

More interesting, one-of-a-kind arrangements. Local flower growers are often small-scale gardeners, who create bespoke bouquets based on whatever is available that week. If you’re the type of person who adores custom-made rather than off-the-rack, than locally grown and arranged floral designs are for you!

Better, more nimble farming practices. Every year there is more and more information available about experimental and beneficial farming practices. Local flower growers often have smaller farms and leaner business models, so they are more adept at trying new things. Organic farming prohibits the use of pesticides, antibiotics, and GMOs. Sustainable farming emphasizes soil health and water management. Natural farming discourages tilling and weeding. Regenerative farming focuses on drawing down our shared carbon load and increasing climate change resilience. Who knows what future farming techniques will be shared this year? The only thing we know for certain is that small, local growers are agile and innovative enough to immediately try them.
